Today, I poured the first casting using plastic for the second Deep Recovery prototype. It was an exciting and nerve-racking process and the result is inspirational if not perfect. It really is thrilling to make something out of plastic. And the results? I realized the plastic surface is too slippery and the model too heavy with too many cosmetic imperfections for my taste. Some dimensions also need adjusting, especially the distance between tracks.
But, it does work and I use it daily! I’ve discovered many more uses for it also.
I decided to make a new model using all wood (no clay) but that means I need better tools so I will outfit my workshop with more machines.
